FILM AND ME
I Enjoy films that appeal to the female target audience,
such as rom-coms, ‘chick flicks’, romance, and drama etc, however I also enjoy
comedies and quite a few horror/thriller films. However I also enjoy
psychological films that create suspense and have enigmas/hidden messages throughout.
1. Wolf of Wall Street- I thoroughly enjoy the role that Leonardo Di Caprio plays in This film, as his performance is of a high quality standard. The film makes the audience feel an array of emotions from laughter to disaster. It's a rather long film that captures the audiences attention and keeps them hooked right till the moment the credits roll.
2. Focus- The enigmas and hidden messages throughout this film creates suspense and tension keeping you on the edge of your seat. You have to watch right through to the end to understand the overall plot therefore i think this film is very successful in retaining the audiences attention. Theres a romantic aspect to attract the attention of a wider audience such as females.
3. Happy Gilmore- Adam Sandler is one of my favourite actors and his performance is always amusing for all audiences. He plays an angry frustrated young man attempting to play golf- a serene calm sport (the complete opposite to his personality), this contrast makes the film interesting as the audience witness 'Happy Gilmore' overcome his frustration and struggles in his life.
4. Billy Madison-Another comical film starring Adam Sandler, who is one of my favourite actors, and again his performance throughout is effortlessly amusing. He plays a laid back 'dumb' young man with a very rich entrepreneur father, and for Billy to take over his company he has to go back to school right from kindergarten. This is a hilarious film as its story is completely unique and different from all films. The audience witness Billy start all over again- in kindergarten.
5. Step Brothers - My favourite thing about this film is the way two 40 year old men act so childishly, it lets the inner child in even adults express itself, as well as being suitable for a teenage audience. The humour is funny in ways that most people can relate to, not to mention Will Ferrell stars in it which is a massive appealing point about the film.
6. Home Alone- I love this film as although it is seasonal and i never tire of watching it all year round, its a family favourite, very uplifting and appeals to everyone.
7. White Chicks- I like the way that male actors play both female and male characters in this film, it's different from a lot of films. The lead actors are funny without even trying which makes the film even more humorous.
8. We’re The Millers- This is a film based upon a family therefore most people can relate to quite a lot of the situations and problems 'the millers' get themselves into it also has a 'wacky' aspect to it, where the characters are quite bold and over exaggerated, I would say this film appeals more to teenagers and I thoroughly enjoy watching this film.
9. Shawshank Redemption- This is another film with enigmas and hidden messages throughout, its a complex film yet very interesting which makes the audience keep watching in order to understand the plot. Morgan freeman plays an excellent role as well as narrating the film. He is a very appealing appealing actor with such a mellifluous voice that you cant help but be absorbed into the film.
10. Elf- I don't ever get tired of watching this seasonal film as the comedy throughout it is so child-like yet appeals to everyone. It's a family favourite thats suitable for all audience types and is uplifting as well as being comical. The comedy aspect is widely portrayed through the amazing actor Will Ferrel, who really makes this film so great.
Well done Ellie, a nicely written piece with some very good justifications for the films you have chosen. Glad to see you have The Shawshank Redemption on your list, a film we looked at in class last year. It's always nice when something we study in class becomes something you might enjoy for pleasure as well.
